CADI - 4th Auckland Triennial

1.What are the themes behind the title "Last ride...' for the Auckland triennial?

This year, the 4th Auckland triennial focuses its theme towards the adventure and risk of art today.

The “title Last ride in a hot air balloon provocatively suggests that the adventurous impulse is itself in an era of transformation,” quoted by Auckland triennial.com

This theme sends out a direct idea towards the audiences that by exploring a range of artists’, society today may perhaps have a different outlook on adventure and risk taking in contemporary art. With this theme, artists are also given the opportunity to create work that expresses who they are and what they are inspired to do.

Mahmoud Bakhshi - Tulips Grown from the Blood of Our Youth

Bakhshi’s work is all about his views on political and social issues that he faces.

The materials used for ‘Tulips Grown from the Blood of Our Youth” are neon, tin, wood, plastic and electric engines.

During the Persian Constitutional Revolution of 1905, the Tulip flower was frequently used and had become a symbol of the Revolution. The neon tulips on the tinplates are there to represent the monuments that are all over Iran.

7. Comment on why you find this work interesting, how does it relate to your own interests?

I find Bakhshi’s work on the “Tulips Grown from the Blood of Our Youth” very unique and interesting to look at. His work brings a different approach to contemporary art, which he also includes a deeper meaning behind his creations. Bakhshi’s work relates to my interest because he uses a range of materials to come up with his own original work, he also bases his artworks on his beliefs, which I personally enjoyed.
